When does a door panel need attention?

What sits behind the door panel?
Behind the trim panel is a plastic moisture barrier, then the window regulator, the lock actuator, the speaker and the wiring. A torn moisture barrier lets water soak the panel and reach the switches. A loose panel often means someone pulled it off before and broke clips.
Since the panel is off anyway, it is the right time to check a slow window or a lock that does not respond. We point you to power window repair or door lock actuator repair if we find a fault, and list it separately.
Our door panel replacement process
Step 1: Test first
We check windows, locks, mirror controls and speakers before removing the panel.
Step 2: Remove carefully
The panel comes off with trim tools to avoid breaking more clips.
Step 3: Inspect inside
We check the moisture barrier, connectors and mounting points.
Step 4: Refit and retest
The new or repaired panel goes on with new clips, and every switch is retested.

What affects door panel cost?
A full panel costs more than clips or a single armrest insert. Panels for older models may take time to find. The estimate lists panel, clips and any inside-door faults as separate lines.
After door panel work
Use the pull handle rather than the armrest edge to close the door. Report any new rattle within a few days so we can reseat a clip. A door that sags when opened is a hinge issue, explained on our panel alignment page.
Frequently asked questions
Do you replace outer door skins?
No. Outer door skin replacement is collision shop work, and we refer it. We handle interior door panels, handles, switches, windows and locks.
Can a loose door panel just be clipped back on?
Often, if the mounting holes are intact. New clips are inexpensive parts, and reusing broken ones is why panels come loose again.
Why is there water inside my door panel?
Usually the moisture barrier behind it is torn, or the door drains are blocked. We check both.
