Ontario sits directly south of Upland, so the surface streets do most of the work. From central Ontario, Euclid Ave is the classic choice: the wide street with the tree-lined median runs straight north into Upland. Take it to Foothill Blvd, turn left, and head west to Central Ave. Mountain Ave is another straight shot north if you live on the west side of the city.

If you are near Ontario International Airport or Ontario Mills, the I-10 west is usually quicker. Exit at Central Ave, go north, and Central brings you straight to the shop. Ontario is a freight city. The warehouses near the airport and along the I-10, I-15 and 60 corridors bring heavy truck traffic, and that means sudden slowdowns, long idling and hard braking in merges. Cars that spend their day in that flow wear brakes and transmission fluid faster than the maintenance schedule assumes.

Many Ontario residents also work shifts in logistics or drive for delivery routes, so cars run early mornings, late nights and many miles in between. Add the flat, exposed heat of the valley floor in July and August and you get tired cooling systems, weak batteries and AC that cannot keep up at a red light on Holt Blvd.

If the gauge climbs while you are on Euclid or stuck on the 10, turn off the AC, turn on the heater to pull heat from the engine, and find a safe place to stop.
