Glass polishing at Route 66 Auto Repair in Upland takes off the light damage that makes glass hard to see through: wiper arcs, hard water spots from sprinklers, and fine haze from years of dust. It is a careful abrasive process, not a cleaner, and it has limits. What marks can glass polishing remove?
Inland Empire glass takes a beating from dust, sun and hard water. These are the marks polishing handles well.

How do you know if a scratch will polish out?
Run a fingernail across the scratch. If your nail glides over it, polishing usually removes it. If your nail catches, the scratch is deep, and removing it would mean taking off enough glass to cause a wavy, distorted spot. On a windshield, that distortion is a safety problem, so we will not chase deep scratches in the driver's view.

Our glass polishing process
Step 1: Clean and test
The glass is cleaned and each mark is checked by touch and under light.
Step 2: Mask and protect
Trim, paint and rubber around the glass are covered so polish stays on the glass.
Step 3: Polish in stages
A glass compound and pad work the area in short passes to keep heat down.
Step 4: Check for distortion
We look through the polished area at a straight edge to confirm it did not wave.

How pricing and timing work
Pricing depends on how much glass is involved and how heavy the marks are. We quote it in writing after testing, and we tell you if a mark is too deep to polish so you do not pay for work that will not help. AAA members get 10% off parts and labor, up to $75, with the card. Polishing takes patience because heat must stay low, so drop-off is often easier; we confirm timing when the board allows.
Aftercare after glass polishing
Replace worn blades so fresh arcs do not start again, and keep a clean microfiber towel for the glass. Aim sprinklers away from where you park. If haze returns quickly, bring it back and we check what is causing it.
Frequently asked questions
Can glass polishing remove wiper scratches?
Light wiper haze usually polishes out well. A deep line cut by a bare wiper arm often cannot be removed without distorting the glass, especially on the windshield. We test it first and tell you honestly.
Does polishing make the windshield thinner?
It removes a very small amount of glass, which is fine for light marks. That is exactly why we stop short of deep scratches: removing more glass in one spot creates a wavy area you would see through every day.
Is this the same as headlight restoration?
