A multi-point inspection at Route 66 Auto Repair in Upland is a head-to-tail look at your car's condition. A technician checks brakes, tires, steering, suspension, fluids, belts, hoses, the battery, lights and wipers, then reports each finding in writing. It is a good fit before a road trip, after buying a car or when you simply want to know where things stand.
What does a multi-point inspection check?
- Brake pad and rotor condition, brake fluid
- Tire tread depth, pressure and wear pattern
- Steering and suspension joints, shocks and struts
- Engine oil, coolant, transmission and power steering fluid
- Drive belts, radiator and heater hoses
- Battery load test and cable condition
- Lights, wipers and horn
- Visible leaks underneath
What an inspection is and is not
A multi-point inspection is a condition check. It is not a diagnosis of a specific complaint; if the car has a noise or warning light, that needs targeted testing through diagnostics and inspections. It is also not a pre-purchase inspection. If you are buying a used car, the deluxe pre-purchase inspection adds underbody photos, a full-module scan, a second sign-off and a written buy-or-walk letter.
Our multi-point inspection process
Step 1: Lift and look
The car goes up so the technician can see brakes, suspension and leaks.
Step 2: Measure
Tread depth, pad thickness and battery health are measured, not guessed.
Step 3: Record
Each point is noted as fine, wearing or needing attention now.
Step 4: Review with you
The service writer walks you through the results and any estimate.

How inspection findings are sorted
Need now: call
- Tires below safe tread or with cords showing
- Brake pads at the minimum
- A leaking hose or cracked belt
Need later: book
- Tires with some tread left, uneven wear to watch
- Fluids that are darkening but not due
How pricing and timing work
The service writer states the inspection cost before we start. Many inspections are done during an oil service to save a trip; see oil change services. Timing depends on the board. If we find uneven tire wear, we inspect suspension and arrange an alignment; the tire services hub explains that.
Aftercare
Keep the written results. Items marked need-later are listed so you can plan them, and we check them again next visit.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a multi-point inspection take?
It depends on the board and whether it is combined with other service. Ask at booking and we will give you a realistic window.
Will you pressure me to fix everything you find?
No. Each finding is labeled need-now or need-later, and you choose what to approve. Declined items stay on the repair order for next time.
Is this the same as a pre-purchase inspection?
No. For a car you are about to buy, the deluxe pre-purchase inspection adds photos, a full-module scan, a second sign-off and a written buy-or-walk letter.
