ABS System Diagnostics in Upland

The anti-lock system watches how fast each wheel turns. If one slows far faster than the others during a hard stop, it rapidly releases and reapplies that brake so the tire keeps grip and you can steer. When the system detects a fault in itself, it shuts down and lights the amber ABS lamp.

Your normal brakes usually still work. What you lose is the anti-skid help, and on many cars traction control and stability control too, because they share the same sensors. In a sudden stop on a wet I-10, that matters. If the red BRAKE light comes on alongside it, treat it as urgent and call before you drive.

A wheel speed code tells us which circuit the module did not like, not which part broke. The sensor may be fine while a wire is chafed, a connector is green with corrosion, or the tone ring is cracked. Swapping the sensor first can waste money and leave the light glowing. Testing first is why there is a diagnostic fee, and it applies to the approved related repair. Many of these faults end up as ABS wheel speed sensor repair rather than a new part. If the scan tool cannot reach the module at all, we move to ABS control unit diagnostics.
