Diesel valve cover repair fixes oil leaks at the top of the engine: the cover gasket, injector harness seals and cracked or warped covers. What are the signs of a leaking diesel valve cover?
- Oil running down the side of the cylinder head
- Burning oil smell as oil reaches the exhaust manifold
- Oil-soaked injector wiring connectors
- A cracked plastic cover or loose bolts
- Oil around the crankcase vent on top of the engine
Why diesel valve covers are more involved
On many diesels, the valve cover is also a mount for injector wiring, fuel lines or the crankcase vent. Some use separate lower covers under the injector harness. That means a leak can come from several seals in the same area.
Also, crankcase pressure pushes oil past weak seals. A clogged vent system can make a good gasket leak. We check crankcase pressure if the leak seems out of proportion. While the cover is off, we can also do a diesel engine valve adjustment if it is due.
Our valve cover repair process
Step 1: Clean and trace
The top of the engine is cleaned and the leak is traced to its source.
Step 2: Check crankcase pressure
Vent function is checked so excess pressure is not the real cause.
Step 3: Replace seals or cover
Gaskets, harness seals and any damaged cover are replaced and torqued in sequence.
Step 4: Run and verify
The engine is run to temperature and rechecked for leaks.

How pricing and timing work
Cover access varies by engine; some need intake, fuel lines or the cab lifted on certain trucks. We quote the access, gaskets and any cover needed. If other seals under the cover are weak, they are listed separately. The gas-engine version is on valve cover gasket repair.
Aftercare
A light burning smell may last a day as spilled oil burns off. If fresh oil appears, bring it back. Keep the crankcase vent filter on its schedule to protect the new gasket, and pair this job with diesel engine gasket replacement if other seals are leaking.
Frequently asked questions
Is a valve cover leak serious?
Usually not right away, unless oil is hitting hot parts or soaking wiring. It is still worth fixing before it spreads.
Can I just tighten the bolts?
Overtightening can crack plastic covers or crush gaskets. If a bolt is loose, we torque it to spec and see if the leak stops.
Why does my new gasket leak?
Crankcase pressure or a warped cover can push oil past a new gasket. We check both.
