Why check the hookup at all?
A trailer that comes loose, sways or goes dark at night is a real danger on the 10 and the 210. Most of those failures start at the connection: a ball one size off, a latch that never closed, chains hung straight, a pigtail plug that looks seated but isn't. Each takes seconds to catch in the lot and is hard to fix on the shoulder.

How the hookup check goes
Step 1: Look at the hitch first
We read the hitch and ball markings before the trailer is connected.
Step 2: Connect and latch
The coupler goes on, the latch closes, and the pin goes in.
Step 3: Cross the chains
Chains cross under the tongue so they cradle it if the coupler ever lets go.
Step 4: Test the lights
One person works the pedal and signals while the other watches the trailer.
Step 5: Check stance and load
We look at how the vehicle sits and talk about loading heavy items forward.

What the free check does not cover
It does not inspect your tow vehicle. Worn pads, old tires, a tired radiator or slipping transmission can all fail under trailer load, especially climbing the Cajon Pass. For that, book a paid vehicle safety inspection. The fee is stated at the counter before testing, and you get a written result that marks each item need-now or need-later.
