Route 66 Auto Repair in Upland accepts after-hours U-Haul returns, so a move that runs past 5 PM, or past 2 PM on Saturday, can still end on time. You park the equipment, fill out the drop card, leave the keys as instructed and photograph the fuel level. Those photos are your proof, and this page shows exactly which ones to take.

When does an after-hours return make sense?

Moves run long. The elevator is slow, the couch won't fit the stairwell, and the 210 backs up at 5. If you cannot reach our lot during open hours, the after-hours drop lets you finish without paying for extra time you did not plan. It also works for Sunday, when we are closed.

The trade-off is that nobody walks the unit with you. That is why your photos matter more at night than they do at the counter.

How to return a U-Haul after hours

  1. Step 1: Refuel and clean first

Match the fuel level from checkout and sweep out the cargo area before you arrive.

  2. Step 2: Park where shown

Use the spot the counter pointed out at pickup, leaving room for other units to move.

  3. Step 3: Fill out the drop card

Write the date, time, odometer reading and fuel level clearly.

  4. Step 4: Take your photos

Photograph the fuel gauge and odometer with the key on, then the empty cargo area and all four sides.

  5. Step 5: Leave the keys

Put the card and keys where your return instructions say. Lock the unit.

What happens after you drop it off?

Your contract closes when the equipment is checked in, usually the next time we are open. If anything looks off, we compare the unit to our checkout photos, and your own photos fill in the gap. Keep them until U-Haul's final receipt reaches you. Questions about charges go to U-Haul, and questions about the lot can come to our counter at (909) 608-7699.

If you rented a trailer, unhook only after the tongue jack is down. See the free towing inspection page for how the hookup works. Moving again soon? Start at the U-Haul rentals hub or read the U-Haul FAQs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I return a U-Haul to your lot on Sunday?

Yes, using the after-hours drop. The counter is closed Sunday, so fill out the drop card, leave the keys as instructed, and take fuel and cargo photos. Check-in happens when we open Monday.

Why do I need fuel-level photos?

Because nobody is there to confirm the gauge with you. A clear photo with the key on shows the level at drop-off. We also take a fuel photo at checkout, so the two can be compared.

Is my rental over the moment I drop it?

Your drop card records the time you returned it, and the contract closes when the equipment is checked in. Keep your photos until U-Haul sends the final receipt.

Get the estimate in writing. Then decide.

Call (909) 608-7699 or stop by 1775 W Foothill Blvd, Upland, CA 91786. Monday to Friday 8 AM–5 PM, Saturday 8 AM–2 PM, Sunday closed. We test first, write the estimate, and label what is needed now and what can wait.

Bring your key, your AAA card if you have one, and a photo of any warning light.
