TLDRA new battery must match your car's size, rating and type. Start-stop cars often need AGM, and some require battery registration after installation.

Route 66 Auto Repair in Upland replaces car batteries after a test proves the old one is done, and we install the type your car was built for. That means the right group size, enough cold cranking amps, and an AGM battery when the manufacturer calls for one. On newer cars that require it, we register the new battery with a scan tool so the charging system treats it correctly.

How do we pick the right battery?

The group size sets the case dimensions and post layout, so the cables reach without strain. Cold cranking amps, or CCA, is how much starting current the battery can deliver. We match or exceed what the manufacturer lists.

Cars with start-stop or a battery under a seat usually need an AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery, which is sealed and handles deep cycling. A basic flooded battery in those cars wears out early. If the old one died fast, a battery charger system test checks whether the car was charging it correctly.

What is battery registration, and does your car need it?

Many newer vehicles track the battery's age and adjust charging to match. Without registration, the car treats a new battery like the old, worn one and may overcharge it. Registration is a scan tool step that resets that record. We check whether your model needs it before we quote.

Our battery replacement process

  1. Step 1: Test first

A battery load test confirms the old battery is the problem and not a drain or the charging system.

  2. Step 2: Protect settings

Where the car needs it, we keep power on the system during the swap so radio and module settings survive.

  3. Step 3: Install and clean

The old battery comes out, terminals and tray are cleaned, and the new battery is secured with the hold-down.

  4. Step 4: Register if required

On cars that require it, we register the battery with a scan tool.

  5. Step 5: Verify charging

We check charging output with the engine running so the new battery is not sent home with a weak alternator.

How pricing and timing work

The price depends on the battery type your car needs, where the battery sits (some live under seats or behind panels), and whether registration is required. You see all of that on the written estimate first. Many battery swaps are done while you wait when the board allows. Call (909) 608-7699 so we can check stock for your size. AAA cardholders get 10% off parts and labor, up to $75.

After a new battery

Your car may idle differently for a few drives while it relearns. If the new battery goes weak within weeks, come back and we will check for a drain or charging issue. Coverage is written on the invoice.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just buy the cheapest battery that fits?

It may fit but lack the cranking power or chemistry your car needs. We show you the manufacturer's requirement and let you choose within it.

Do you install batteries I bring in?

We can. We inspect the battery first. There is no warranty on a customer-supplied part, and labor is charged at book time, including any registration step.

Will I lose my radio settings?

Sometimes, depending on the car. We use a memory saver where it helps, but some settings such as window auto-up may need a quick relearn, and we can show you how.

Get the estimate in writing. Then decide.
