Wiring loom repair restores the plastic conduit, wrap, grommets and clips that shield your car's wires from heat, sharp edges and vibration. Route 66 Auto Repair in Upland handles loom work when conduit has split, a clip broke after another repair, or a harness now hangs near a belt. Our ASE-certified technicians rebuild the protection along the factory path so the wires inside stay healthy, and we note everything on a written estimate first.
When does the wiring loom need attention?
- Conduit that is split open and bleached from heat
- A harness hanging loose after a previous repair
- Wires touching a belt, pulley or steering shaft
- A grommet missing where wires pass through the firewall
- Rattles from a bundle that lost its clips
What does the loom actually protect against?
Wires move with the engine, the doors and the suspension. The loom holds them in a set path and keeps them off sharp edges. Grommets seal the holes in the body so water and dust stay out of the cabin, which matters on dusty Inland Empire roads.
Loom also slows heat. Split conduit near the exhaust exposes wires to temperatures they were not built for. When a clip is missing, a bundle can drift into a moving part, and the damage becomes a wiring harness repair instead of a loom job.
Our loom repair process
Step 1: Walk the run
We follow the harness from end to end and mark every split, missing clip and rub point.
Step 2: Check the wires inside
Before closing anything up, we look under the old loom for cracked insulation or bare copper.
Step 3: Replace protection
Conduit, wrap, grommets and clips go back on in the factory path with the right size and heat rating.
Step 4: Clearance check
We turn the steering, run the engine and open the doors to confirm nothing rubs or pulls tight.

Need later: book

How pricing and timing work
Loom work is mostly labor, and access sets the time. We give you a written estimate before starting and label each spot as now or later, so you can do the urgent rub point today and schedule the rest. AAA members get 10% off parts and labor, capped at $75, with the card at time of service. Most loom repairs are done the same day when the board allows.
Aftercare
When any other shop works near your wiring, ask them to reinstall every clip. If you hear a new rattle under the hood or smell hot plastic, call (909) 608-7699. We check loom condition during any electrical system inspection and whenever insulation repair is on the order.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use hardware store split loom?
Some of it is not rated for engine heat and will soften near the exhaust. We use conduit and wrap matched to the location, and we keep the factory routing so the bundle stays away from hot and moving parts.
Why do clips break after other repairs?
Old plastic clips get brittle and snap when removed. Many are single use. We replace them instead of leaving a harness hanging, because a loose bundle is how rub-through damage starts.
Does loom repair fix electrical problems?
Only if the wires inside are still healthy. If rubbing has already broken insulation or copper, we repair the wires first. Loom work prevents the next problem rather than fixing one that already happened.
