When is a muffler worth repairing?
A muffler is worth repairing when the case itself is sound and the problem sits around it. A leaking inlet joint, a failed clamp, a broken hanger or a torn isolator can all be fixed while the muffler stays in place. We tap the case: a clear ring means solid metal, a dull thud or flaking means rot.
Replacement is the better call when the case has rusted through, the seams are soft, or the inside has come apart. Short trips leave water inside mufflers, so they often rot from the inside, and a hole you can see usually has thin metal around it. Patching that just moves the leak. When we replace, we check the pipe ahead of it, because a new muffler on a rotten pipe is a short-lived fix. Step 2: Show you and quote
You get photos and a written estimate for repair or replacement, with the reasoning.
Step 3: Repair or fit the new muffler
We fix or replace what you approved, using new clamps, gaskets and isolators as needed.
Step 4: Leak and rattle check
We run the engine, check the joints and road-test over bumps.

Frequently asked questions
Can a muffler be repaired or must it be replaced?
If the case is solid and the leak is at a joint, clamp or hanger, a repair usually lasts. If the case is rusted through or the seams are soft, replacement is the lasting fix. We show you photos so you can see the difference.
Will a new muffler make my car quieter than before?
It should bring the sound back to about where it was when the old one was healthy. If there is also a leak upstream, fixing only the muffler will not quiet the car, so we check the whole run, including the exhaust hangers.
Why did my muffler rust out when the rest looks fine?
Mufflers collect water. Short trips never get the system hot enough to boil it off, so the muffler rusts from the inside first. Longer drives now and then help the next one last.
