How do you keep an enclosed trailer secure on the road?
Lock the door every time you walk away, even for a quick meal. A padlock through the door latch is the simplest step. Park where you can see the trailer, in a lit spot, and back the door close to a wall or another vehicle when you safely can.
At a hotel, ask the front desk where trailers can park and choose a space near the entrance or a camera. Keep the trailer hooked to your vehicle overnight when the lot allows it. Take valuables, documents and medications into the room with you.
What an enclosed trailer does not solve
A lock slows theft; it does not stop a determined thief, so keep irreplaceable items in the cab. The walls also add no towing ability. Step 1: Check in
Show your license and reservation at the counter.
Step 2: Door and latch check
We open and close the rear door with you and show you the latch.
Step 3: Condition photos
Existing marks and the empty cargo area are photographed.
Step 4: Hookup check
Ball, coupler, pin, chains and lights are checked free of charge.
Step 5: Pull out slowly
A slow loop of the lot lets you feel the trailer before traffic.

How pricing and timing work
Rates for every enclosed size are set by U-Haul and shown on uhaul.com at booking. The hookup check is free. If you ask us to look at your tow vehicle, the paid inspection fee is stated at the counter before we start, and AAA members get 10% off repair parts and labor, up to $75, with the card at time of service.
Returning an enclosed trailer
Remove your padlock, sweep the floor and photograph the empty box before return. The after-hours return page lists the drop steps. If your vehicle felt heavy or ran hot while towing, book a paid vehicle safety inspection before the next trip.
