Serpentine belt repair is about the cause, not the belt. A belt that squeals, chirps, shreds or jumps off is telling you something else is wrong: a misaligned pulley, a failing bearing, or an oil or coolant leak soaking the rubber. What belt noises and failures are we diagnosing?

Why do serpentine belts fail early?
Chirps usually come from alignment. If one pulley sits even slightly forward or back of the others, the belt walks across it and chirps. Squeals are more often slip, from a weak tensioner or a glazed belt. Edge fraying points to a pulley that wobbles on a worn bearing.
Fluids are the other big cause. A small leak from a water pump, a valve cover or a power steering line can mist onto the belt and soften it. A new belt will fail the same way until the leak is fixed.
Our serpentine belt repair process
Step 1: Listen and isolate
We run the engine and use a stethoscope and a light water mist test to tell a chirp from a bearing noise.
Step 2: Check alignment
A straightedge across the pulley faces shows any pulley that sits out of line.
Step 3: Test each pulley
With the belt off, each pulley is spun for roughness, play and wobble.
Step 4: Fix the cause
The bad pulley, bracket or leaking part is repaired as quoted, and the belt is replaced if it was damaged.
Step 5: Confirm quiet running
We rerun the engine under every accessory load and road test before calling it done.

How pricing and timing work
The diagnostic fee is stated at the counter before testing and applies to approved related repair. The repair cost then depends on what we find: a single idler pulley is a small job, while an alternator or steering pump with a bad bearing is larger. If the job grows, we stop and ask. Aftercare

Frequently asked questions
Can belt dressing fix a squealing belt?
It can quiet a belt for a day, but the sticky film collects dirt, speeds up wear and hides the real cause.
Why did my new belt come off?
Usually a pulley is out of line, a tensioner is weak, or the belt was routed wrong. Sometimes a seized pulley stops the belt suddenly. We check all of these before fitting another belt, and we photograph the failed part.
Is a belt chirp the same as a bearing noise?
