Why does truck size matter so much?
The wrong truck costs a day. Too small and you are making a second run down the 10 with a sofa strapped in last. Too big and you are steering something you don't need through tight apartment lots in Upland. The sizes below give you a starting point. Your real deciding factors are bulky items: sectionals, bunk beds, pianos, gym equipment and patio sets.
Picture the biggest single piece first. If it barely fits a small truck on its own, go up a size.

Is your move local or long distance?

How should you plan loading day in the heat?
Summer afternoons in the Inland Empire are brutal on people and cargo. A plan keeps the day short.
- Book the earliest pickup you can, and load before noon
- Stage boxes by the door the night before
- Load appliances and heavy furniture first, against the front wall
- Stack boxes heavy on the bottom and tie off each section
- Keep water, a first aid kit and phone chargers in the cab, not the box
- Take electronics and medications in your own car
What is it like to drive a moving truck?
The first mile feels big. Side mirrors are your main view to the rear. Take corners wider than you think, watch for low carports, drive-through awnings and tree branches, and give yourself double the stopping distance, especially on Foothill Blvd where traffic stops short.

Truck or trailer: which is right for you?
A truck makes sense when you have no hitch, when the load is several rooms, or when you want the move done in one vehicle. A trailer makes sense when your SUV or pickup is already rated to tow and the load is smaller. Many one-driver families pick a truck because it frees up the car for the kids or pets.

How do you protect furniture inside a truck?
- Wrap wood furniture in pads before it goes up the ramp or through the door
- Tape drawers and doors shut instead of removing them
- Stand mattresses on edge inside bags to keep dust off
- Put glass tabletops and mirrors on edge between mattresses
- Tie off each section of the load so nothing slides forward
- Lay a tarp on the floor if the forecast shows rain
Which truck rental mistakes cost the most time?

What should you bring to truck pickup?
Bring your valid driver's license and your reservation on your phone. Wear closed shoes for loading. Plan where your own car will park while you are out, and ask the counter where to leave it.
Can the shop help if your own car needs work before the move?
Yes. We are a full repair shop, so if the family car that follows the truck has a warning light, a soft brake pedal or a temperature gauge that climbs, tell the counter. A paid vehicle safety inspection checks brakes, tires, cooling and transmission, and the fee is stated before testing starts.
Every line on the written estimate is marked need-now or need-later, so you know what must happen before the move and what can wait until you are settled. If the job grows, we stop and ask again.
How do you make unloading go faster?
Unloading is where tired movers make mistakes. Before the truck arrives, tape a sign on each room door at the new place, and mark every box with the same room name. One person stays in the truck and hands items to the ramp or tailgate. Everyone else carries straight to the labeled room, so nobody stops to ask where a box goes.
Take furniture off in the reverse order it went on, and set beds up first so there is somewhere to sleep that night. Keep a clear path from the truck to the front door, and prop doors open with something that won't scratch the frame. When the box is empty, sweep it right away. It is far easier to clean while you are still parked than after a drive back to our lot at the end of a long day.

We check the body, mirrors and cargo door together and note existing damage.
Step 3: Photograph fuel and cargo
We take a fuel gauge photo and a cargo area photo before you leave.
Step 4: Show the controls
Mirrors, lights, hazards and the cargo door.
Step 5: Set the return plan
You leave knowing where to park and how the after-hours drop works.

How do you return the truck cleanly?
Refuel to match the checkout photo, sweep out the box, and remove all tape, pads and trash. Photograph the fuel gauge and the empty cargo area. If you are back after hours, follow the after-hours return steps and keep the photos until your final receipt arrives.

Is a cargo van enough for a studio move?
Sometimes. A cargo van handles a light studio with boxes, a mattress and a few chairs. If you have a bed frame, dresser and couch, a 10-foot truck is usually the safer pick.
Can I tow a trailer with a moving truck?
Often, yes. Add the trailer or tow dolly to your truck reservation on uhaul.com, which checks the pairing. We run the free hookup check before you leave the lot.
What time can I pick up a truck?
During our open hours: Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM and Saturday 8 AM to 2 PM. We are closed Sunday. Early pickups help you finish loading before the afternoon heat.
What if I bring the truck back late in the day?
If we are closed, use the after-hours drop. Fill out the drop card, leave the keys as instructed, and photograph the fuel gauge, odometer and empty cargo area.
Can I leave my car at your lot while I have the truck?
Ask the counter at pickup. Space on the lot is shared with rental equipment and repair customers, so we will tell you where your car can park and what to expect when you return the truck.
